Our Hillcrest Diary

MondayThe day started with a coach driver who had no sense of direction, nor any idea of how to read a map! Despite this, we actually made it to Hillcrest ahead of schedule. On route, we took in the sights of Tinern. Shoes and trainers managed to get covered in mud, much to the displeasure of Hannah H, Ashley, and Mrs Bess (who, whilst leading the way, managed to end up ankle deep in mud!). The small, but interesting, collection of sculptures, were of great fascination, particularly to the boys, who were drawn to the mermaid in particular. This provided the first hands-on experience of the week, with Chris Brown confidently leading the way!
.
Next stop was Beechenhurst Lodge, where the children rapidly polished off their picnics. The children were then marched through the wood, in search of yet more intriguing sculptures. However, the most exciting observations seemed to be the beetles on the path. Kelly and Sally took on the role of Beetle Watchers, but Sally was soon relieved of her duties after crushing one of the poor little creatures under her shoe. Georgia (aka Dr.Doolittle) took one of the beetles under her wing, which prevented her from giving her full attention to her pet snake, who, consequently, was passed around between the children, and ended up snuggling into Mr. Bookers? neck for a well deserved rest!
On arrival at Hillcrest, we were met by a blue haired man called Paul. The children were quickly settled into their dorms, and allowed time to unpack. The adults did the same, except for Mrs Jenkins, whose luggage seemed to disappear, and Mrs Collett, who is still trying to find her room (The coach driver?s lack of direction seemed to have rubbed off on her!) After tucking into a tasty roast dinner, the entertainment commenced. It seemed to involve lots of running around and loud shouting ? but we have been assured that there in an educational point to it all ? somewhere!
