7 Dec 2007 - Newsletter 5
Dear Parents,
A real Christmas tree is installed in the hall, the children are bringing in decorations to dress it and carols are resounding around the school. Christmas is nearly here! All the staff are busy preparing for Christmas and FOCJS committee have a long list of commitments. We would ask for your help in making Christmas a very special time for our children.
CAMP—Monday 17th December @ 6pm
FOCJS will provide mulled wine for the audience- please bring change to make a donation to cover the cost. We would also ask parents to contribute a few mince pies - any left over will be sold off the next day to raise extra money for FOCJS. The school will be open from 5.45pm and mulled wine will be served before the start at 6pm. We anticipate being finished around 7pm. As there are only 180 tickets there may be an opportunity for a few grandparents to attend the dress rehearsal on Monday afternoon- please give numbers to the office to ensure there is room.
Christmas Parties
The lower school parties will be held on Thursday 13th December and the upper school parties on Friday 14th December. FOCJS organise party food, drink and crackers. Please would every parent donate £1 per child to cover the FOCJS expenses for the parties. Children may bring party clothes to change into for the afternoon.
Christmas School Post
The post service commences on Monday 10th December. We ask all children to put Christmas cards in the post box outside the office with the full name and class clearly legible. Post is sorted and delivered daily.
Staffing Change
If you wish to make a donation for a leaving gift for Mrs Barber please do so by Monday 10th at the latest.
Every Child Matters
ENJOY AND ACHIEVE
The school results have been published this week. We anticipate that the school will be high in comparison to national and local results. This is due to the hard work of our children and staff throughout their time at Crossways.
Yr2/3 transition survey
Please would all year three parents and children who have not yet completed and returned the transition survey do so as soon as possible. We will use the results of this survey to influence transition arrangements for the year three children next year.
Theatre trip
On the first day back after Christmas the school is going to Cardiff Theatre to see Beauty and the Beast.
Inset day
Thursday 3rd January is a staff Inset day where we will be developing our work on teaching of maths and ‘SEAL’ [Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning].
POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION
FOCJS
There are a few special rocks on sale in the school shop. These make good stocking fillers for the children and are popular gifts.
The Autumn Fair ran successfully and approximately £1250 was raised.
STAYING HEALTHY
We have installed cleaning gel on entry to the school hall for those pupils on second sitting to ensure that hygiene is a priority. This week the school has also borrowed a special machine to demonstrate to pupils how to clean hands effectively.
Christmas Lunch
Christmas lunch is on Tuesday 11th December. Due to the extra work involved for the kitchen there will be no toast next week. On Thursday sausage and mash will be served at lunchtime as the Infant School have Christmas lunch. From Friday 11 January 2008 ‘fruit tuck’ will be 15p.
KEEPING SAFE A few pupils are arriving very early in school. If a pupil is on school premises before 8.45am and has an accident parents are responsible. No supervision is provided until 8.45am when school is opened and children can come in.
A very merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.
