Dear Parents,

In March we have welcomed Mrs Streatfield a new temporary member of staff. She will be teaching a group of year 5 pupils for maths for two terms.  At Easter we also say farewell to Miss Ainscough and Mr Evans both of whom have been teaching in year 4.  Miss Millar returns to 4m and Mrs Wootten returns from maternity leave to take up the job-share post in 4b. We wish Mr Evans and Miss Ainscough well and thank them for all their hard work since January.

ENJOY AND ACHIEVE

Yrs 4 and 6 walked to St Mary’s Church to take part in the ‘Easter experience’. All the children      enjoyed the range of activities provided at St Mary’s and were very well behaved during the trip.

Many of you will have received home-school agreements at parents evening.  Please make an effort to send these back into school as soon as possible.

The school Eisteddfod has now taken place with some very talented young people sharing their skills.  The winners are now invited to participate in the celebration concert on the 3rd April at 6pm.  Winners from 2007 are asked to return their trophy to the school before the competition starts.

A successful book week event included a wide range of literacy tasks. ‘Extreme reading’ included pupils reading in a fascinating range of places including the boot of a car!   A display of these will be put up in the school hall for parents to view.  The book sale was well supported and £190 of free books for the school were acquired for the school library as a result.

POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION

The sports relief running event raised £413.00.  Many thanks to all who took part.

The school  allotment is taking shape and we plan to have a special week involving the whole school between 22nd and 25th April.  In order to raise some funds for this project we plan to hold a ‘non-uniform’ day on Wednesday 2nd April.  Children are asked to wear either  ‘green’ or ‘flowery’ items to school and make a donation of £1 to the allotment project.

Our parents extended schools project has started this term with the topic ‘family friendly discipline’. The group, meets each Monday morning at 10.15am.  We have a few spaces still available.

BE HEALTHY/STAY SAFE

Several pupils have been taking school dinners without ordering and paying for them. Please ensure that your child knows which days they are having a  school lunch and make sure that all lunches are paid for regularly.

Football

On Monday 17th March, a select staff team played five boys from our first team as part of our Sports Relief fun event. Staff were the victors by 2-1 and everyone enjoyed the event.   The school team has played several matches recently and have had good form away from home. We must thank Mr Carrick, Mr Booker and Mr Curtis for training our young people so well in after school clubs.

School Access

Many parents and children are continuing to access the school site via the main driveway which is for vehicles only. The pedestrian gates must be used at all times and access gained to the infant and junior school behind the boiler house away from the car park. This is for your and your child’s safety.

Tennis Coaching

The children all benefited from a session of tennis coaching provided by Thornbury Tennis Club on Tuesday.
